Impressive funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the First Christian Church for Mrs. Alice Stephens, 76, whose death occurred at her home, 200 1/2 W Market Street at 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Stephens, a Gold Star Mother, succumbed to complications as the result of an attack of influenza suffered a week ago. Rev. John H. Wilson, pastor of the church was in charge of the services. Burial was in Masonic Cemetery. A quartet composed of Mrs. Dan Lookabill, Mrs. Verne Livengood, Paul Foxworthy and Lester Hole, accompanied on the piano by Helen Barton sang, How Beautiful Heaven Must Be; Beautiful Garden of Prayer and Old Rugged Cross. Members of the American Legion Auxiliary conducted their services at the home before the body was taken to the church for funeral services. Auxiliary members also had charge of flowers. Paul bearers, all nephews and nieces of the deceased, were Mr. and Mrs. Rex McCormick; Mr. and Mrs. Merle McCormick; Lydia Myers and Georgia Riley. Mrs. Stephens was the mother of Guy Stephens, who died at Camp Taylor in 1918 while a member of the US Army. Mrs. Stephens was born May 30, 1860, near Crawfordsville, the daughter of Johnson and Letitia Jane McCormick. She was married to Moses Stephens on March 29, 1892. The deceased was a member of the First Christian Church of this city, American Legion Auxiliary and the Woman's Relief Corps. Her husband was killed in a railroad accident about 25 years ago. Surviving are a brother, James H. McCormick, Danville, Ind; a sister, Mrs. Pearl McDaniel, Darlington and many nieces and nephews.- kbz
